Thank you to everybody who came and watched our Harvest Assembly. We hope you enjoyed it. We loved learning all of the songs and our teachers were very proud of how well we sang on the day. We particularly enjoyed learning The Little Red Hen Rap with Mrs Jones our music teacher.
In Maths this week we have been using different equipment to help us with our addition number sentences. We have used counters, cubes, Numicon and our fingers to check our answers. Here we are using counters to find out the answers to some number sentences. We then compared the number sentences and found out which were equal, greater than or less than.
Quick Reminder - Parent's Evening is next Tuesday and Thursday. Please sign up via the school website.
It has been another busy week in 1G as we have been preparing for our Harvest Celebration Assembly which is taking place next week. We have been thinking about different food groups and 1G have been learning about the different crops that grow in the fields. On Friday we had an Art focus day and we made some wonderful Farm Fields Collages which we are looking forward to sharing with you at the Harvest assembly. Here is a sneak peak at our Art work - we had lots of fun creating these.
Lots of you have bought in socks ready to make sock puppets next week. Unfortunately we ran out of time this week to look at everybody's toys from home so please feel free to send them in again next week. We also had an incredibly busy Friday and we didn't get a chance to see everybody's Show and Tell so please bring this in again next Friday.
Harvest Celebration Assembly is on Wednesday 11th October at 2.30pm - We look forward to seeing you!
This week we have been extending our knowledge of number by comparing numbers and using new words to describe them. We have learnt words such as:
- more than
- greater than
- less than
- fewer than
- equals to
- the same as
We have even learnt the special symbols to represent them. Remember the crocodile ALWAYS eats the biggest number!
We have played games where we have had to order numbers from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest. We have also thought about using words such as first, second, third etc.
Show and Tell
As of next Friday, we will not be allowing any toys for Show and Tell. Children may bring in items that are educational or very special to them. For example, if you have visited somewhere at the weekend they could bring in a leaflet, photos of family holidays are always lovely to see or any work that they have completed at home would be great. Thank you.
This week we have been reading the book 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes. We thought about our favourite toys and where we got them from. We found out that lots of us had toys that were very old and very special to us. We talked about how we would feel if we lost them...we would be very sad and worried.
In our Foundation lessons we are learning all about the history of communication. We learnt about messengers, the Royal Mail, mobile phones and carrier pigeons. On Friday afternoon, we made our own carrier pigeons using cardboard tubes and paper. Here are the results. We are very proud of them!
Thank you to all of you who came along to the Meet the Teacher presentation on Wednesday. Please find a copy of the PowerPoint below.
All of you will now have received Photograph and Internet permission forms. Please complete these and return them to school asap if you haven't done so already.
We have had a wonderful first week in 1G. We have all started to settle into the new routine of being in Year 1 and we are all feeling very grown-up. We have been very busy this week and we have been doing some Maths, English, PE and PSHE.
In Maths we have been learning how to use a Part, Part Whole Mat. This helps us to add numbers together and we have used these alongside counters and dice.
In English we have been reading the story of Knuffle Bunny. We have learnt some new words and written sentences. You can watch Knuffle Bunny on YouTube via the link below.
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday. On a Monday our PE will be taught by a PE coach and on a Wednesday we will be taught by Mrs Garland. PE kits should be left in school and will be sent home at the end of each half-term.
Meet The Teacher
This is next Wednesday, the 13th, in our classroom straight after school.
Our topic this half term is 'under the sea'. The children shared lots of lovely items from under the sea in Show And Tell this week. We read the rhyming book 'commotion in the ocean', named and described sea creatures and found out the different ways that sea creatures protect themselves. To help our learning we built a deep sea cave in our class room which is guarded by our very own octopus. The children made repeating patterns with the paper chain to make 8 legs for our octopus. Here is our finished sea cave.....
