Many apologies for the spellings not being sent home this week. Their new spelling books are ready to go but unfortunately I was out of class today and the replacement teacher had several things to deal with at the end of the day. Please bear with us – they will be sent home on Monday.
This week we had our second visit from the dental hygienist and the children all took home a letter with a permission slip to return before the next visit on Monday the 16th. Only a few children have returned these already. I will have spare letters available on Monday morning should anyone need one.
We also sent home a letter about our upcoming trip to Colchester castle on Thursday 9th November. We have recently received correspondence from staff at the castle museum requesting that packed lunches do not contain any nut related products. Another school is also visiting the castle museum on the same day and one of the children has a severe nut allergy. Thank you in advance for your support on this.
A huge thank you for your support and donations on our non-uniform day yesterday. I have not yet heard the total amount raised but will keep you posted on this.
We have had fun this week and the children have been practising reading their work aloud with expression. Class photographs were taken but again I cannot publish any of these in the blog as they contain images of other children and some photographic consent forms have yet to be returned. I will endeavour to speak to the parents of the children concerned next week. Hopefully we will then be able to publish class photos in our blog.
Just a quick reminder that parent consultation evenings are on Tuesday and Thursday next week. Please book an appointment through the school website if you have not already done so.
The children have enjoyed having 2 visitors this week. Mr Kightley brought in some Roman artefacts to share with the children. Unfortunately the pictures of this session cannot be uploaded as we are still awaiting some photographic permission forms. If you have not yet completed and returned your form could you please do this as soon as possible.
We also had a visit from a dental hygienist who has been talking to the children about their teeth and how to look after them properly. Over the next two weeks she will be returning to teach additional sessions. She has however set the children some homework for next Wednesday. The children need to look in the food cupboard at home and read the labels on food items to find if they contain sugar. They have been asked to record 10 items that contain sugar that surprised them.
Next Thursday is dress down day and all money received is being donated to the 'Save the children - Hurricane Irma appeal'. We will be looking at the effects of Hurricane Irma and the work of this charity in lessons next week.
As year 5 are currently on their residential trip it has been decided that spellings will now be sent home after their return so that the whole school will be receiving their new spellings on the same week.
Have a great weekend!
We are 3D!
