What happens at the Maths Cafe?
The Maths Cafe is a very special learning area.
It is used during the day for one-to-one or small group maths teaching, or for playing maths games during break times. It is also our maths cupboard, so children and staff are free to use and borrow the equipment here.
After school, Miss Crabtree and Mrs Rogers run maths clubs and it is also used by the KS2 Learning Hub Club. Sometimes teachers meet there to plan or discuss their maths teaching!
On Wednesdays after school, the Maths Cafe is open for all children, accompanied by an adult, from 3.30 - 4.30. Please do join us for maths games, stories and a drink!
Resources in the Maths Cafe
We are a well-resourced school and we incorporate a lot of different resources into our maths teaching. This encourages the children to visualise their learning by building and manipulating numbers.
Lots of the equipment we use is bought from the pound shop! We're not kidding! We find endless uses for cups, straws, paper plates, dice, lolly sticks, little toys and dominoes!
Do come and join us in the Maths Cafe, after school on a Wednesday, if you would like to find out more about how we use specialist equipment such as Numicon, place value counters and Cuisenaire Rods, or how you can use pound shop equipment to support your child's learning.
