The end of the school year is in sight, and there are many things to remember and to prepare for. Firstly, thank you to all the parents who came to watch their children at our final swimming session on Friday - I am sure that you are proud of the confidence the children showed in the swimming pool. We will be collecting in all of the reading books, and no more will be issued this week. On Monday it will be our last adventure in the woodland classroom and we aim to have a fun and exciting session. On Tuesday the children will be spending the morning with Miss Crabtree who will be teaching the class in year 1. It is also open evening from 3.30 till 5.00, where you will have the opportunity to see your child's work and talk to staff. On Wednesday we will have our final PE session and you child's PE kit will be sent home. In the afternoon, we will have our Pirate Party. The children will get changed into their pirate costumes after lunch and the fun will begin. The children will only need to bring in a small snack as they will have a school lunch as usual. It will also be the last day in Penguins for Mrs Abbott as she does not come into school on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, the children will again spend the morning in their new classroom with Miss Crabtree. Friday will be the final day of the term and the year. Sadly, it will also be my final day as Penguin's class teacher. We will also say goodbye to Mrs Hewlett who will be moving to a new school. Mrs Abbot and I would like to say what a pleasure it has been to work with the class this term, and to thank you for all your support. We would like to wish you a safe and enjoyable summer.
Your child's Tapestry Learning Journal will soon be available for you to download from the tapestry website, and here is a link to a tutorial on how to do this - http://eyfs.info/forums/topic/46905-how-parents-can-download-journals-as-pdfs/ They are downloaded as PDF files, and will be available for seven days, after which the link will expire. All the Children's Learning Journeys will be archived at the end of this term. The final swimming session of the term will be on Friday and parents are welcome to come along to their child's swimming session. There are two groups - 10.00 to 10.30 and 10.30 to 11.00. and the children in each group are posted on the noticeboard outside Penguins entrance. Any parents coming along to the session will need to come to the main office and sign in. Please be aware that the instructor taking the session is not the usual instructor, and will not know the children in the same way. There are several events occurring between now and the end of term, so please keep reading the blog and checking the noticeboard to keep up to date with all that is happening.
Now that we are heading toward the end of term, here are a few things to remember. Library books - these will be collected in this week, so if you child still has a library book at home, could they please bring it in. If you are not sure if your child has a library book, then Mrs Abbott and Mr Randall have a list of children and library books. Reading books will be changed this week, but they will be collected next week and no reading books will be sent home during the last week. We have acquired a number of jumpers and swimming hats, if your child is missing one of these please come and see Mrs Abbot or Mr Randall and hopefully we can reunite them with owners. Tapestry Learning journals will be ready for parents to download as PDF files over the next few days - there will be a link on the blog with instructions on how to do this as soon as the files are ready.
The theme for this half-term's work will be the sea and the seashore - lots of science and habitat work. We would like to ask that if you do happen to visit the seaside over the next few weeks you would be willing to bring back a few items - shells, pebbles, small driftwood, dried seaweed etc for our investigation table. Thank You
Welcome back to the final half term! We hope that everyone has had a wonderful half term holiday, and we are looking forward to hearing from the children how they made the most of the sunshine. We hope to start swimming this week and there is a change to the timetable - Penguins will now swim on Friday morning from 10.00 - 11.00 in two groups. The children will need to bring appropriate swimming kit (Girls = one piece swimming costume. Boys = swimming trunks or tight shorts), a towel and a swimming hat. Goggles are not allowed unless there is a medical note. Hopefully the weather will be fine and we can take full advantage of our swimming slots. On the subject of fine weather, it is good to see that so many of the children are being sun-safe - wearing hats, drinking regularly and finding shade when they need to. As the weather gets warmer, this will be an ongoing message to the children and sending them in with sunscreen applied in in the morning is a great help. Obviously this is a busy half-term with much going on, but we will keep you up to date with all the planned events.
Mrs Abbott and Mr Randall would like to welcome all the Penguins back after the Easter holiday and look forward to an exciting Summer Term ahead... Firstly congratulations to Mrs Hoey on the birth of her son Arthur - mother and baby are both doing well and we hope for a visit from them soon... Secondly congratulations to the class for all their effort last week during the cross-country challenge. Penguins Class took an active role in the event and everyone completed the distance - thank you to all the parents who came to support the children during the event... Also thank you to the parents who have brought in items for our collections area - we are hoping to create boxes of items - pebbles, beads, cones, seeds, in fact anything that can be grouped together and used as part of the children's learning... Our theme for this half-term is "Lights, camera, action" So far we have covered Lego and Minions, this week we tackle Superheroes and we continue with Toy Story, The Jungle Book and Monsters Inc until half-term...
Next week: We will be celebrating Pancake Day, we will be doing some pancake tasting and talking about which toppings were our favourite. We will also be celebrating World Book day and we are looking forward to seeing all your costumes and or dressed up potatoes.
In maths we will be starting to look at number bonds to 10.
We will also be learning about the Sun as part of our weather topic.
Please note - Your child will need to bring in a photograph of their mum by Monday 6th March 2017 for a secret task!
After half term we will be learning about the weather. The first week back we will be focusing on rain, looking at the Noah's Ark story, thinking of adjectives to describe how the rain sounds. We will also make rain maker instruments to play in our music lessons. Also, we will continue to develop the use of Read, Write Inc in the classroom.
Have a lovely half term and see you on 20th February.
