Another super week in Penguins! This week the children have been learning all about birthdays. We really enjoyed sharing our baby photos and talking about our birthdays. We also found out the months we were born and talked a little bit about the seasons too.
Next week our topic is StickMan by Julia Donaldson. We will be making our own stickman in the Secret garden using pipe cleaners and sticks. We will also be doing lots of counting, sorting and ordering numbers.

Another super week in Penguins! The children have been learning about Fireworks and describing the sounds and colours using some fantastic adjectives. We have also been looking at numbers, one more and one less and counting backwards fro 10-0 and 20-0. We also had lots of fun in the Secret Garden, toasting marshmallows and drinking yummy hot chocolate as part of our fireworks and celebrations topic. The children also made chocolate apples on sticks and had a great time decorating them.
Next week our topic is Birthdays. We will be drawing and labeling party food items and making and decorating party hats in preparation for Pip the Penguin's birthday! We will also be making some sandwiches and cakes.

Another super week in Penguins! The children have been learning about Diwali, making their own Diva lamps out of clay and talking about the festival of lights.
Next week our topic is Bonfire Night and Fireworks. We will be making colourful firework pictures and countdown number rockets! We will also be having a bonfire party in the Secret garden, toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate! Yum!!

Another super week in Penguins! The children have been learning about animals that live in the woods, we have also been making hedgehog bread rolls-yum! and clay hedgehogs, adding sticks for prickles.
After half term we will be beginning our RWI groups and practising our initial sound and blends.
After half term our topic focus is celebrations and festivals. We will be looking at Diwali and talking about shapes and patterns.

We have been busy making bread roll hedgehogs. We mixed the ingredients, kneaded the dough, added raisins for eyes and used scissors to 'snip' prickles in the hedgehog rolls. The children are really looking forward to tasting them! Yum!
Another super week in Penguins! The children have been enjoying the story, 'The Gruffalo', by Julia Donaldson. We have been using lots of describing words, and writing our own Gruffalo descriptions, e.g. sharp teeth, purple prickles! We have also been making our own Gruffalos using collage materials and 2D shapes for the different features e.g. circle eyes and triangle teeth and claws.
We are continuing our phonics (RWI will commence after half term) but we are busy practising our letter sounds. This week we have focused on the sounds, v, y, w, th, z and we have been practising writing these letters and learning the 'dittys' which accompany them.
Next week we will be looking at non-fiction and fiction texts about animals that live in the woods and creating our own hedgehogs in the Secret Garden.

Another super week in Penguins! The children have been using positional language in response to the book, 'Where's My Teddy', using language such as 'behind/in front/next to/under/over' etc.
The children also had a visit from the school dental nurse who talked to the class about the importance of looking after our teeth and healthy eating.
We are continuing our phonics (RWI will commence after half term) but we are busy practising our letter sounds. This week we have focused on the sounds, e, l, h, r, j and we have been practising writing these letters and learning the 'ditty's' which accompany them.
