What a busy third week in 4B! This week we were contacted by the ‘Horrible Histories’ team. Terry Deary is considering creating a special episode all about inspirational figures in history. He heard we were learning all about the incredible achievements and the events in Jesse Owens’ life. Therefore, we were set the task to convince the creator of Horrible Histories that J.C, the talented, dedicated athlete truly deserves to have an episode written and filmed for him. After all, he achieved what no Olympian before him had managed to accomplish. 4B have eagerly written biographies full of all the key events and important moments in Jesse Owens’ life. It was a real pleasure to witness the children’s enthusiasm for writing. Some members of 4B even asked to continue writing during playtime! I think it is safe to say we have thoroughly enjoyed learning about such an inspirational man.
Over the next few weeks, Year 4 will need to picture themselves in the past. The children will be creating their WW2 personas and stepping into the shoes of an evacuee. In preparation for their evacuation and drama work, 4B made gas masks and gas mask boxes this week. We even tried on a replica gas mask and carried out a gas mask drill.
In maths, we assisted Indiana Jones by completing some Roman numeral challenges in our outdoor learning area. 4B also turned into rounding experts. We practised using our class rule for rounding to help us estimate. 4B know that 5 or more means we raise the score but 4 or less we let it rest. Our army rounding chant helped us apply the rules for rounding as well. We are now ready to turn into smart solvers by tackling some problems next week.
Photographs of our exciting week will be added soon. Watch this space!
