As you may have guessed from the title above we have started to look at Shakespeare's classic 'Romeo and Juliet'. We have studied the main plot and explored it's characters. We are all very excited!
In maths we are continuing to look at fractions, we learnt how to add and subtract fractions.
In science we looked at our solar system, building a to scale diagram and learning how astronomers discovered how our solar system exists.
In art we started our collage topic and the children's first experiments were fantastic. 5CL are such talented artists!
In topic we looked ancient Mayan architecture and had fun finding out facts and being travel agents.
The library system wasn't working last week but is now back up running smoothly so children have changed their books.
This week in literacy we have been planning our Mayan traditional stories, the children have been using what they've learnt in topic to come up with some great ideas. Their writing is really coming on leaps and bounds!
In maths we are continuing with fractions and the children are progressing well. We have looked at converting from improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa and comparing and ordering fractions with different denominators.
It was internet safety day on Tuesday so we had some in depth discussions about how to keep safe on the internet and how to be a confident internet user.
In ICT we continued to program our second game, the children are becoming really skilled in this.

This week we have been inspired by Martin Luther King to write an 'I have a dream' speech. Children have written a speech about the dangers of plastic disposal in our oceans. We really got passionate about the issue and the results were great.
In maths we have been looking at fractions which we will continue next week.
In science children did some cross-curricular writing, coming up with a poem about a planet. In ICT we started constructing a new 'boat race' game, the children are becoming great programmers! In PE we continued looking at our basketball skills which are coming along nicely. In art we planned our designs for some clay pots, watch this space!
In history we looked at Mayan gods and found out that the most important god is the corn God as without corn the Mayans would not survive.
