Our World War II Evacuee Day was a huge success. All the children entered the spirit of the day, dressing as evacuees, complete with gas masks and an appropriate war time lunch. Many thanks to all the adults who supported their children, whether it was coming to say goodbye as they departed on their journey or providing costumes.
The children were able to experience what it would have been like to be billeted with different families. Mr Rix was a superb ARP warden!
Activities on the day included playing childhood games such as skipping, hopscotch, snakes and ladders, ludo, cards etc. It was amazing to see children actually playing together without a games console in sight! We look forward to seeing the results of our gardening endeavours in the Spring.
We would like to thank our visitor, Mr Payne who showed our children what it would have been like trying to move around streets in the dark, avoiding obstacles. They listened intently to what he had to tell them about the problems of living during the Blitz.
All of Year 4 were incredibly positive about their day and it was well worth the effort involved to see their reactions to different situations.
