It's been another busy week in 5CL. In literacy we have continued our work on 'The March!' with the children planning a recount of the book from Martin Luther King's point of view.
In maths we have been looking at division and if you can continue to help your children with their times tables this will help them immensely. In ICT we have developed our ghost games and they are coming along nicely. In art the children have used tissue paper and PVA glue to make a colourful bowl, they will be bringing them home on Monday! In science we looked at levers, pulleys, gears and springs and completed the end of topic test. We will be moving onto space next week. In topic the children looked at the Mayan writing system and they learnt how to decipher the symbols. We learnt that is it actually phonetic. We have also been looking at sources of information and finding out where they came from. In PSHE we have been exploring friendship. The children did some excellent role play in character about different scenarios e.g. what would happen if you were in the playground and someone did not follow the rules. This was to help them overcome any small playground issues. In handwriting we looked at the 'w' join and the Oxford Owl 'Read Write Ink spellings' are going well. Keep up the excellent work 5CL! I'm sure you'll agree Christmas seems a distant memory, thanks again for those who came to watch year 5's performance of the 'Highway Man', it was a great end to an excellent topic.
In literacy we are now studying 'March On' which looks at Martin Luther King and his contribution to the civil rights movement. The children have had some great discussions and some fabulous mini drama performances. In maths we have been looking at multiplication, if you can continue to help the children with their times tables this will really aid them when it comes to longer multiplications. In science we are continuing to look at forces. In ICT we have become game developers and the children are really enjoying it! In art we produced some amazing figures which were influenced by Alberto Giacometti. This terms topic is about the Mayans. This week has also been assessment week, results will be shared at parents evening, we look forward to seeing you there, don't forget to book an appointment online. Have a good weekend! |
