Sorry we haven't posted anything for a while. We've been really busy!
Our topic in history is WWII! We have made leaflets to persuade the adults to evacuate their children! We also made posters about the different roles that you could have had. The different groups were "Home Guard, Bombing, The Blackout, Evacuees, Internment, Rationing, and Gas Attacks" Recently we went to see a show called "Vackees". It was about the adventures evacuees from London had in the Devon countryside.
Last week we had a craft afternoon where our parents could come in and help us make things for the Christmas fayre.
We have just finished reading "Friend or Foe" -it was a good book. Soon, we are going to write a story of our own about the children in the war and how they would have felt. we are also going to create a shadow puppet show, yet again about evacuees.
We will update you next week! Hopefully
The neon disco was lots of fun! To anyone who didn't come we recommend you to come next time. This was year six's last neon disco.
Don't forget to book up your parents' evening interview with me. There are still time slots available.
This week we've read the book "Hidden Figures" about 4 black women who overcame prejudice to work for the U.S.A.'s space agency - NASA.
We found out how they refused to let sexist and racist attitudes and laws prevent them from reaching their goals.
We've also learnt about the treatment of Jews under the Nazi regime in Europe during WW2 - the horrific treatment and reasons behind it.
Some really important, challenging and emotive lessons.
We're looking forward to catching up with art and "display day" next week when we get to be even more creative and refresh the displays in the corridor and classroom to show off what we've learnt.
Thanks to the children for their mature and thoughtful attitude this week.
In literacy we have been reading a book called Rose Blanche ,it is about a girl who lived in World War 2 . We even wrote from Rose's point of view.

Thanks to all who attended the "Meet the Teacher" after-school meeting a couple of weeks ago. I'm attaching a PDF copy of my presentation to refresh your memory and if you couldn't make it to the meeting, to look at it for the first time.
On Monday, we started reading further into the Rose Blanche book. We started planning a story about a character in the story. We listed powerful vocabulary and phrases to help us describe. In science, we are learning about vertebrates and invertebrates. We also made a branching database. In RE, we learned about Christianity. On Tuesday , we did PE and we did squash with two female coaches. Don't forget to bring in your PE kit and bring in WW2 homework- especially cakes!
