Thank you to everyone who came along to the Christmas craft afternoon on Friday and to those who donated glass jars. It was a lovely afternoon making a range of Christmas crafts. These crafts will be put together in a bundle with some other crafts we make in class, to buy as pack at the Christmas fayre. The fayre will be on Friday 7th December from 3:30-5pm.
Another week in 1B has come and gone. Our brains have been zapping and growing with all the learning we have been doing. We have been persevering in Maths when working out how to find the difference between numbers. We used multi link cubes to help us work out the answers. We also know that we can use our counting to help us work it out.
We also investigated darkness and what it is. We made a den and used torches to shine through the darkness inside the den. When we were building the den we used our team work skills and thought about how we could make it as dark as possible.
We have started our topic of dance in PE. Magic dust has been touching parts of our bodies which bring them to life and make them dance. Ask us to share some of our moves with you!
Please could you save any small - medium size jam jars and bring them in please. The jars need to be big enough to put a tea light inside and the lid isn't needed. We will need these for the Christmas craft afternoon next Friday, 23rd November. Thank you!
The weeks seem to be flying by in a flash. The children have had a full week back in their new Read Write Inc groups and have settled back into our class routine.
In English we have looked at the Owl and the Pussycat focusing on rhymes and adjectives. The children thought of some fantastic adjectives to describe the Owl, Pussycat and Piggy wig. We learnt the meaning of some new words, as the rhyme contained some words that we hadn't heard before. Next week we will be looking at a book called Big Machines.
In Maths our brains have been busy zapping with all the learning! We can use empty number lines to solve subtraction number sentences. At first we found it tricky to remember how work out how many jumps we needed to do and where they go, but by the end of the week we could all do it!
Today we had our school remembrance service. It was lovely to see the whole school coming together with the community. They represented the school well, listening and singing beautifully. The children said that they felt proud to be a part of the service.
Our first week back after half term has been very busy and different to a normal week with children going on the school trip Tuesday or Thursday. When the children weren't on the trip they either stayed at school with me on the Tuesday or Mrs Darroch on the Thursday and designed and made their very own mode of transport. When they designed their vehicle we thought about the different features it would need and then how we could decorate it. We had a discussion about what would be best to join the different materials together and decided that masking tape would hold the materials together and could be painted over. Then we used recycled junk to create our designs. We worked really hard all morning to design, build and decorate these.
Year 1 had a fantastic time at the Transport Museum. We got to go on lots of different types on transport including buses, trams and fire engines. We discovered that you used to pay the conductor on a bus rather than the driver. Did you know that a tram can be driven from either end of the carriage? At the end of the morning we all got a chance to drive a model train. For some of us, this was the highlight of the trip! To get to and from the museum we travelled on a coach. On the Thursday, the coach driver was so impressed with the children he phoned the school. He said ' Please let the teachers and Headteacher know how polite and well behaved the children were on the coach. They said thank you without any prompting from the teachers.' All the children should feel very proud of themselves for representing the school so well.
Next week we should be back to normal with Read Write Inc starting up again with new groups.
