Can you believe there are only 2 days left of Year 3!
I am so proud of all that the children have achieved this year and I look forward to our final few days in Year 3 together.
A few handy reminders for the remaining days at school.
On Monday please remember to bring a carrier bag or two to take your books home.
On Tuesday please bring your picnic breakfast and a blanket to sit on. This will be a great time to celebrate the end of term.
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.
Year 3 will be completing the Rushmere Swimathon during their Monday lesson. Children will swim aided or unaided for as many laps as they can. This will be a fun experience for the children.
Please remember to get your sponsor forms completed and returned to the school office.
How far do you think you will be able to swim?
Well done to Jimmy who accepted the challenge from Mr Fykin to have a picture taken of him reading in an unusual place.
Jimmy was reading the book he won from the token raffle because he reads 3 or more times a week at home. Well done Jimmy.
This week 3H have received a special delivery in the post all the way from France. In the Autumn term we wrote to children at Ecole Saint-Exupery in Noeux-Les-Mines. We wanted to practise our French and the children at the partner school wanted to practise their English.
We were over-joyed to receive letters back and have already started to think about what we would like to write back in reply. What would you include in your letter?
The children noticed that the handwriting was very different to ours, which made it tricky for some of us to read their name. Can you remember the name of your French friend?
Here are some photos from the day we opened our letters. We were so excited!
3H have had a great day dressing up and sharing our books with each other. We also shared our books with some year 6 children and children from the Speech and Language unit. Here are some pictures of our costumes.
Today year 3 were very lucky and we had a Hockey coach come in for a taster session. We learnt how to hold a stick, dribble and played some competitive games.
There will be a club starting Monday which will be lead by a Hockey coach. Letters will have gone home today but there is a copy.
Last week in Art we learnt a new technique called 'Tonking'.
First we sponged a thin layer of paint onto a piece of sugar paper. Once it had dried we put another layer of paint on. We then got a piece of news paper to pull off one of the layers of paint.
We loved it because we got very messy.
This term in Science we have been studying light. We have learnt how light reflects certain objects and that it travels only in straight lines. Last week we made shadows and discovered how shadows are made.
Can you make different shadows and measure how long they are?
Welcome back to you all and a happy new year!
As we start a fresh term I wanted to remind you of a couple of things which will really help your child to make great progress this term.
We had a great rock star day in December and so many of the children are enjoying using TT rock stars. Please continue to play this at home. What rock star level are you at? If you have lost your login details please speak to me asap.
Well done to the children who won their book prize in Mr Fykin's draw. I have been so impressed with many children reading consistently each week - well done! New book diaries are coming out today. Please do continue to read daily with your child it is so important. I can really see a difference in the children who do read regularly at home, even just 5 minutes a day.
Please keep PE kits in school during the week as sometimes we do get extra coaching sessions. Children in 3H now have PE on a Monday and Friday.
We are joining in with REDjanuary so we are encouraging the children to keep active every day in January. Children can bring in old trainers or Wellington boots for outdoor activities.
I look forward to lots more learning over the coming weeks.
Welcome to 2K!
