It seems like such a long time ago that we were thinking about having a well earned Christmas and now look - we have completed our first full week in 2018!
It is really important to start this term with a positive attitude as there is a lot to cram in to this relatively short space of time. It has been great to see so many children coming back with a determined attitude. Well done!
This week we started looking at our new text in literacy. This term we are focusing on 'Refugee Boy' by Benjamin Zephaniah. We have already had some very interesting discussions about the topics raised in this book and we have only read one chapter. Our writing task for next week will be to write a letter home from Alem to his mother back in Ethiopia.
In our maths lessons we have been working on decimals and how to use them in different ways. I was really impressed with the children when we were dividing numbers and showing remainders as decimals. Some of their problem solving was great! Next week we will begin looking at percentages.
Our history topic for this term in Ancient Egypt and we have been very fortunate to have a visit from Megan who is currently training to be and Egyptologist. She spoke to the children about her work about how the Egyptians write using hieroglyphics, how they buried their dead and what they believed happened to them in the afterlife.
Overall a really good week with lots of positives.
6P will be keeping you informed of all the exciting things we are doing in class. Keep logging on to read our blogs.
