This week in literacy we began studying the Michael Morpurgo novel Private Peaceful. As is the case with every book that we study, the children had to firstly predict what they thought this story was going to be about using only the front cover initially and then subsequently using an alternative front cover and then the blurb. The quality of the writing has really improved throughout the year and the children are much more adept at including ambitious vocabulary and a range of sentence structures to engage the reader. I have included a couple of examples below for you to read, which demonstrates the quality of writing being produced now within 5S. The children have received this novel enthusiastically and I am confident that as the children become more engaged with the story of Tommo and Charlie Peaceful, this will be reflected in the quality of the literacy work that they produce.
