This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year and taking part in lots of related activities. We have been using red rice to fill up containers, we made lucky money wallets and lanterns, practiced writing Chinese numbers, counted Chinese coins, danced a dragon dance in PE and tried Chinese food! Phew what a week! See some of the pictures below.
Next week we are starting our first fairy story, Little Red Riding Hood. The colour is purple and the letter is d.
Thursday is World Book Day and to celebrate the children are allowed to bring in their favourite story book to share, please make sure that it is clearly labelled.
This week we have been focusing on Pancake Day. We read Mr Wolf's Pancakes and discussed how Mr Wolf felt when nobody would help him. We wrote shopping lists, made play-dough pancakes and pretended to make them in our play. The maths focus was shape and we played various games to help us learn the names and properties of 2D shapes.
But the favourite part of this week must have been decorating and eating the pancakes! Yum!
Next week is half term, Nursery re-opens on Monday 19th February. The first week back and a new theme starts with Chinese New Year. Have a good break.
This week was our last week of the dinosaur topic. Next week we will be focusing on Pancake day, which is Tuesday 13th February. Reading the story Mr Wolf's Pancakes. Decorating pancakes with healthy toppings and eating them on Thursday (please alert us to any allergies).
Friday is our Slipper Day, so don't forget to send your child in with their slippers and donate a £1 to the Nursery fundraising for outdoor equipment.
In the Secret Garden this week we had to be palaeontologists and look for dinosaur bones. Each bone was numbered and we had to collect them all. We made a bone number line and check if any were missing.
It's been a busy dinosaur week in the Nursery. We have been counting dinosaurs...
We measured a dinosaurs footprint using non standard measures. First we used our shoes and them cubes. We had to estimate how many we thought we would need before we started.
We practised writing numbers in salt....
Monday 15th January is the deadline for the school admission form for September 2018. These can be completed online.
Welcome back to Nursery. Hope you have had a good break.
There are lots of things going on this Spring term. A 'wear your slippers to nursery day' (on 9th February), a trip to Pipers Vale Gymnastics (letter to follow) and a Stay and Play (Friday 16th March).
Our topic this half term is Dinosaurs. Show and tell starts next week and the colour is red and the letter is b.
PE kits need to be in this week as we start on Friday.
It seems almost impossible that there is only 3 days left of the term! That first day in September seems like a distant memory now!
This week is the Nursery party (Tuesday) and Wednesday is the last day which is a normal uniform day. There is no library or show & tell, PE kits can be taken home for a freshen up, but please return them the first week back.
Please can any remaining DVD slips and monies be in by Wednesday. At the moment there are not enough orders (4 short) and it may have to be cancelled.
We hope you all have a good break and look forward to seeing you on Thursday 4th January.
Next weeks topic is Christmas. Children will be learning about the Christmas story and taking part in some Christmas crafts, as well as our usual phonic focus (u) and colour (gold); hopefully a trip to the Secret Garden, weather permitting!
Please put your name down on the Christmas food party list, if you haven't already done so.
Any problems just ask a member of staff.
