At Rushmere we aim to provide engaging Outdoor Learning opportunities for all.
We want the children to be excited, enthused and engaged in the world around them enhancing their spiritual and mental health.
The children have regular access to the outside area, stimulating inquiring minds and a sense of awe and wonder.

The Outdoor Learning Curriculum is delivered through individual lessons designed by teachers which link to topics taught, and through a range of practical activities promoting hands-on learning with opportunities for developing team working skills and problem solving.
To check understanding and address misconceptions, live feedback is given throughout activities, both whole class, small group and individual.  Misconceptions are dealt with through a combination of re-teaching and drawing upon pupils’ prior experiences.
Lessons are designed and delivered through first-hand experiences allowing learners the opportunity to explore and investigate to develop and embed their knowledge – “Look and Learn, See and Do”.
The very nature of outdoor learning provides multiple cross-curricular learning activities.  For example, ‘a scavenger hunt’ for natural objects covers a whole range of skills including; sorting, counting (Maths), classification (Science),  pattern and texture (Art). Literacy is embedded throughout all aspects of outdoor learning with lots of opportunities to promote and develop phonics skills and reading.
Assessment in Outdoor Learning in the Early Years is through observational evidence uploaded onto Tapestry.  In KS1/2 assessments form part of the curriculum area being taught and are assessed accordingly.

The possibilities are endless as Outdoor Learning provides a sense of identity and purpose within the natural world.

Please see our SEND page for details of how ALL subjects are adapted to meet the needs of all pupils. The following subject specific adaptations, including risk assessments, identification of possible hazards, additional staff to support physical and learning needs, to allow all children to access the knowledge and skills required.

Children have a love of the outdoors and respect for the world around them.

Regular opportunities to learn outdoors will develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on experiences.

The holistic approach will foster resilience and confidence leading to independent and creative learners.

Children will learn how to take risks with their learning in a safe environment promoting team work, turn taking and negotiation skills.
