The weeks seem to be flying by in a flash! Only 46 sleeps until Christmas Day!
This week we have been learning about fireworks and how to keep safe.
Next week we will start our two weeks focussing on our birthday topic.
In English we used adjectives to describe fireworks. We have been thinking of exciting words: bang, pop, whizz, sparkle and using our phonic knowledge listening for sounds in words and having an attempt at writing the sounds we hear i.e. b-a-n-g.
Next week we will being using our phonics to help us write a birthday list. I am looking forward to reading what the children would like as a birthday present :).
This week in our maths meetings we have been using the counting stick to help us with our numbers (0-10) and the order they go in. Miss Phillips really needed our help as the numbers kept getting in a muddle.
Attached are some number cards to print of if you wish to print them off and challenge your child to see if they can put them in the correct order.
We will be sharing a given amount of cupcakes to share between two people.

Wednesday 14th November- Please can the children bring in a baby photo of themselves. Please could show and tell be named.
This week we have been learning about Diwali. Diwali is the festival of light and we listened to a range of stories telling us all about Diwali and how some families prepare and celebrate. We made our own salt dough Diwali lamp and they are called Diva lamps.
Next week we our focusing our learning on fireworks. We will be learning how to stay safe and using adjectives to describe a firework.
Maths: this week we have been looking carefully at repeating patterns. We found it tricky to start with but we persevered and now enjoy completing a repeating pattern. To help us we went on a website called Top Marks. Below is the link if you wish to have a go at home.
We also worked with Miss Phillips to practise our number formation and ordering numbers.
Next week we will be try our best to continue to form our numbers correctly by writing them on a rocket. I have attached a link to a set of number formation cards that we use to help us remember how to write the numbers.
English: This week we practised writing our name, taking our time to form our letters correctly and use a tripod grip when holding our pencil.
Next week we are using adjectives to describe a firework. We will then write a selection of these into our special writing books.

Home corner- In the classroom we have a lovely home corner which the children love spending time in. I would like to display photos of the children's family in the home corner to make it feel more homely. If you would like to send a photo in please do and we can start putting them up :).
Secret Garden: Panda class have kindly volunteered to look after the garden and we are hoping to create a bug hotel, digging area, seating area, but to do this we will need some supplies. If you have anything lying around your garden that you no longer need, please feel free to donate, Panda class would really appreciate it. Anything like:
Please check children's book bags regularly, we often put letters, party invitations, leaflets and key information straight in their books bag so they don't get lost.
Reading raffle -
The reading raffle is still taking place weekly on a Friday. This term to be entered the children will need to be practising key sounds that I will put on a post-it note in their blue reading log or to read their reading book that is sent home. This will need to take place two/three times a week to be entered.
As you are aware the children had a class photo which was in the Evening Star. Below are some pictures that myself and Miss Mills took at the same time.
This week- we have been learning about the role of a fireman. We have created a fire engine out of shapes, we looked carefully at what shapes we needed and the properties they have. We also ordered ladders by size from the longest to the shortest.
After half term- we will be learning learning about Diwali and how people celebrate the festival of light.
Maths- this week we have been using shapes to create a fire engine and learning new mathematical vocabulary.
After half term- we will be practising writing our numbers using the correct formation.
English- this week we had a go at writing our new mathematical vocabulary; longest and shortest.
After half term- we will be practising writing our names using the correct letter formation.

Wednesday 31st October- please can the children bring in something colourful.

This week- we learnt all about the police and their role. On Monday we waited for a policeman and his police dog to come into school but they got called away to an emergency. After lunch we received a phone call from the police officer and he needed our help. We had to find Stick Man as he had gone missing. We looked everywhere and ended up in the secret garden, where we had to work in teams to find the clues and solve the puzzle.
Next week- We will be looking at a fire engine and learning about the role of a fireman.

Wednesday 17th October - Please bring in something that is the colour orange.
We had a brilliant visit from Dan the Paramedic who talked to the children about what his job involved and how he helps people who are poorly. He also showed us a special machine that measures your heart rate and he showed us how to put on a bandage.
We learnt a lot from our visit and when some of the teddy bears in the class became poorly we knew how we could help them.
Next week- On Monday we are having a visit from a Police Officer and the Police Dogs. The children will have the chance to find out all about being a Police Officer and see the dogs in action! We are super excited for this visit.
Our maths focus this week was looking in depth at the number 5. The children learnt that the number 5 can be represented in lots of different ways. We used a 5 frame to investigate all the different ways we can make 5.
Next week- Our focus will be continuing to explore the number 5 and introducing the number 10.
This week we used our phonics knowledge to label an ambulance. We tried our best and feel very proud of our work. If we struggle we say to our self 'just try your best and your best is good enough.'
Next week- We will continue learning new phonics sounds and using these in our writing to label a policeman.

This week our topic has been library. At the start of the week we read Supertato, then we ordered the story to identify the start, middle and ending.
In the classroom there was a range of different activities linked to the story. We captured the Evil Pea by threading, we also mashed some peas so Evil Pea could not escape and cause havoc in our classroom!
Today we designed our own character, using adjectives to describe them and some of us to chose to make our very own supertato.
Next week our topic is Library, we will be meeting Mrs Beaumont the librarian and learning about the role she does.
On Wednesday the children can bring in their favourite book for show and tell. Please can the books all be named in case the same book is brought in.
I am super proud of all the boys and girls, they have been working really hard and trying their best :). Over the last week the Panda's been very busy exploring their classroom and school environment.
Since starting our school journey we have been getting to know each other, setting classroom rules and expectations. We have also been having fun learning about the different things we do in school and have had many new experiences
Today we had a visit from the dentist, we learnt all about keeping our teeth clean and foods that are good for us.
Next week we will be going to the secret garden, please can all the children have their wellies in school by Friday if they haven't all ready brought them in.
