SCHOOL COUNCIL BLOG

We are up and running!

16/11/2018

The school council is now up and running!

Our first meeting was held on Thursday 15th November. At this meeting we discussed what it meant to be a member of School Council, what is expected of us and some of the tasks we will complete over the year. We agreed to start the year by getting the views of all of the children in school - to do this we are going do a questionnaire with each class to find out what our peers like and dislike about school so that we can consider what we can do about it.

We also selected roles in a democratic way for each person in the council.
Here are the roles for the school council this year: -

Chairperson: Hugo L (6R) Hugo will be running meetings, reading through the previous weeks minutes and he will share the meeting's agenda with the council and work through this.

Vice Chairperson:  Sophie W (6CR) Sophie will need to be prepared to lead meetings in Hugo's absence! She will also support Hugo and file the minutes away from each meeting.

Public Liason Officers: Georgia H (5C), Daniel W (6P) & Jude (1B) - These children will be letting the whole school know what is going on in the school council. They will help update this blog and help with the display board in school. Daniel is already keen to place suggestion boxes around school so that he can gather ideas from everyone about things we could be doing! WATCH THIS SPACE!

Secretary: Ben S (5H) Ben will be helping take minutes in each meeting and will be doing the register each week to make sure everyone has attended.

Treasurer: Jayden A (5CL) - Jayden will be taking records of any money we have raised, donated or spent for the school council.

We will be meeting every two weeks on a Thursday lunchtime. For the meeting to go ahead, we must have 8 school council members present. Decisions will be made using a hands up or blind voting system. If a decision can't be reached, we will put it to the whole school. Ideas and questions are put to the whole school before they are discussed further and voted on in school council.

In two weeks, we will be looking at the questionnaire we have sent to the whole school and we will be thinking about some key areas we can improve/work on this year!

Attached are also minutes from our meeting this week & the questionnaire we have sent out to everybody.
