Miss Bullock and Mrs Harries (PE Coordinators) Congratulations to our Year 5 and Year 6 Squash teams who completed in the Saxon Cup on Wednesday. They each played great matches to win 1st place overall in both years 5 and 6. We also has children from the teams win best year 6 boy and girl and best year 5 girl. The teams showed good sportsmanship and were very organised. Well done to all! On Tuesday 8th October, the Rushmere Hall Girls football team took part in our first tournament this season. We haven’t played outside school before so we were very excited. We were feeling very nervous but we were prepared for the challenge.
Our first match was tough as we were getting used to the layout of the game. The final score was 1-0 to the opposing side. We had a team talk and changed our formation and the next match went much smoother as we had improved our communication skills. Our third match was against Sidegate and we lost 1-0 but we really enjoyed the game as we were really bonding as a team. By the final match we had improved massively in all areas of play and we won 2-0. We were one of the only schools to score more than one goal. We were really proud of our achievements and are looking forward to the next. We were also proud that Mia won the Fair Play award and received a prize! Match report by Faye and Georgia At lunchtime today Rushmere Hall held their very own World Cup Tag Rugby Match ahead of the Upcoming Rugby World Cup Final on Saturday morning. With Mrs Harries coaching South Africa and Miss Bullock coaching England the teams ran out to cheers from the year 5/6 spectators. Once warmed up, Mr Plowman asked each of the captains to come forward for the coin toss, which South Africa won. On the whistle, South Africa made a good charge towards the try line, however, the ball was intercepted part way down the field. England were quick to turn this over and scored their first try. Throughout the first half England kept making some great interceptions and took the score up to 3 - 0 at half time. After a few changes, South Africa came back stronger with a good defensive line. They quickly overturned the ball, and once in possession, sprinted for the try line to gain their first try. South Africa had more possession of the ball within the second half but did concede another 2 tries to England. The overall score was 5-1 to England. Great sportsmanship was shown by all players and we all had a fab time. We all are now hoping for an England win tomorrow! What an amazing day we had! The sun was shining and every child got involved with sports day. Below are some pictures of the winners. ![]()
Every term the house teams compete against each other in different sports. This time it was Hockey.
During the week we saw some great team work, sportsmanship and resilience from all teams. The managers did a great job in supporting the teams. Here are the results: Year 3 1st - Air 2nd - Earth 2nd - Fire 3rd - Water Year 4 1st - Earth 1st - Fire 2nd - Air 2nd - Water Year 5 1st - Earth 2nd - Water 3rd - Air 3rd - Fire Year 6 1st - Water 2nd - Air 3rd - Fire 4th – Earth Georgia was introduced to squash at Rushmere Hall in a taster session. She enjoyed this session so much that she participated in the after school club run by Ipswich Sports Club and Emily Ison. Representing Rushmere at the Saxon cup she then went on to join the squash club at Ipswich Sports Centre. Below are the lists of her achievements so far.
Winner of Best of Girl at the Saxon Cup Year 4 & 5 Part of the ISC Squash Academy Played in the East Regional Closed Suffolk U11 Runner Up Represented Suffolk at the National Champs U11 Well Done Georgia.....we may see you at the Olympics one day. We are very proud at Rushmere to have a child from our school represent and play for the county.
Ollie Bryan first started out participating at Hockey club on a Monday after school in the KS2 playground with Coach Heather. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to join the local Hockey club at Rushmere Sports Centre. With hard work, dedication and support from his family, Bryan has been selected to join the Suffolk Hockey U13 academy centre as a goalkeeper. He will take part in a number of training sessions and will hopefully be selected to play some matches against other county sides. He also plays for the IES u12 boys having moved up from the u10 side in September. Ollie has already played in a tournament for this team and has another one in December. We wish Ollie all the best in his Hockey career, you may see him representing England one day! We finished fourth out of a total of nine teams and with a bit more luck it could have been even better.
We won two of our three groups games very impressively, with our only loss a very tight one to the eventual winners, St Mary's, by 6 runs. In the 3rd/4th place match we were again a bit unlucky against a very strong Britannia side who had at least four club cricketers in their side. We lost by 10 runs but it was close right to the end. The team were great and worked so well together, supporting each other and helping each other so much. Special mention to our three year 5 boys who I hope will be up for the challenge again next year. Another performance to be proud of from Team Rushmere. Mr Plowman |
