Story Time

Hi All, sorry that I have been quiet over the last day or so. I was hoping to upload a video for you all to watch of me reading a story. However, the file is too big and it won't let me upload it. Instead I have found a video of the book I chose to read. All of my story books are still at school so I had to raid the shelves at my parents house to find stories that I enjoyed when I was younger. (Don't worry, I made sure I was safe as I asked whether they could drop the books round and leave them outside the house as they only live 2 mins walking distance from me!) My class have enjoyed reading some of the old bear tales at schools so I thought I would read the story Hoot. Hope you enjoy the story!!
On the post below I posted some pictures of some of the different weeds that I found in my garden. I hope you managed to work out what they were. There was a thistle, stinging nettle, dandelion and a bramble. Good job I had my gardening gloves on to get those out!! The brambles and thistles were a bit prickly!!
As it is now technically the Easter holidays I won't be posting quite so much. Enjoy the holidays and I hope that you all stay safe!
Take care,
Miss Bullock x

A Spot of Gardening

31/3/2020

Yesterday I spent some of the day in the garden weeding. I came across a few different weeds and wondered whether you could identify them? Take a look at the pictures below and see whether you can name them.
As I was digging in my trug I came across a centipede. I have added a video of it moving around. Look at the way the centipede uses it's antenna to feel it's way round. It has so many legs too!! I also had a bit of a surprise when I was digging. I found a carrot that had obviously grown over the winter! I will enjoy eating it for dinner!

Hi Year 1,hope you've had a lovely relaxing weekend. I woke up this morning and really fancied pancakes so thought I would treat myself. To make these I needed, 100g of plain flour, 300ml of milk (or in my case oat milk) and 2 eggs. I weighed out the flour first and then measured the milk. I then steadily added the milk to the flour bit by bit. Lastly, I added the eggs to the mixture. I then poured some of the mixture into the frying pan. Once the pancake was cooked, I tipped it onto a plate and added jam and peanut butter. When I made my pancakes, I forgot to take a picture of the end results as I was too eager to eat them. I have got some mixture left over so will try to remember next time!
This afternoon I am going to spend some time in the garden clearing some weeds. I am going to keep my eyes out for any minibeasts I might see and might even take some pictures of some plants to see whether you can workout what they are!

Something is smelling good

Yesterday I realised that I had some rhubarb that needed cooking so I decided to look up some recipes that used rhubarb. I came across some really yummy recipes such a rhubarb and custard crumble cake and rhubarb and white chocolate cheesecake but I didn't have the ingredients for them. Instead I decided to make a rhubarb and pear crumble.
First, I weighed the rhubarb to check that I had enough. Next, I chopped the rhubarb up. I then peeled and cut up 2 pears. I put these into a pan to soften and cook with some butter, cinnamon and brown sugar. As this was slowly cooking, I made the crumble by weighing out flour, sugar, butter and hazelnuts. I gently rubbed the butter into the dry ingredients with my fingers to create a crumble. Once the fruit had cooked for 10 mins, I placed it into a dish and poured the crumble on top. The crumble cooked in the oven for 30 mins. To serve, got some dairy free ice cream and tucked in. It was SO yummy! There is some left for today too!! Have you done any cooking at home? What did you make? Happy cooking everyone!

Morning from Miss Phillips

26/3/2020

What a lovely day it is today, when I go for my walk this afternoon I will see what signs of Spring are around and I will take pictures of what I find and will upload them tomorrow, I am going to be brave and have a go and draw something I find from my walk and as you know in 1P drawing is something I struggle with but I always have a go.

Have you been listening to the stories by David Walliams? If yes what is your favourite one so far? Discuss with your family and see what their favourite one is.

Spring Hunt

Those animal shadow drawings look great fun Mrs Ingram! I hope you traced the shadows carefully before you coloured neatly between the lines! I might try one of those myself.
Yesterday I managed to go out on a bike ride as one of my daily exercises. As I live in the countryside I hardly saw anyone whilst biking. Whilst I was cycling I did notice that there are now some signs of spring around. I took some pictures as I cycled which I thought I would share with you. I think my favourite thing I saw were the beautiful daffodils by the side of the road. They are a bright yellow or orange which stand out against the green grass and bushes that surround them. I felt so inspired by them that I decided to draw a picture of them. Have a look below to see my results. If you go out for a walk or into your garden, what signs of spring do you notice? Can you draw some of them? If you don't fancy drawing, how about paint or even collaging them?
Now I know I asked if you could find any minibeasts in your garden. Did you manage to find any? If you did, could you create something to tell me what you found and how many? It could be a table or maybe even a bar graph? You may have drawn some pictures of what you found which is great. Minibeasts are fascinating creatures. Perhaps you could research one of them and create a minibeast fact file?
Looking forward to seeing some of your finished projects!

Hello from Mrs Ingram

26/3/2020

Well done Miss Bullock on your fabulous effort keeping everyone fit from home!

We are missing everyone and hope that you are happy and keeping busy at home. Here are a couple of ideas that fit nicely with our Animal Kingdom topic.

Colchester zoo has some great ideas for animal activities

Why not make the most of the lovely spring sunshine and make one of these animal shadow pictures. Draw around the shadows - you could choose different animals to create different habitats.

I will finish for today with a picture of my kitten Ember who jumped up on my desk to help me update the blog!

A Workout with Mr Wicks

Morning everyone! I hope you enjoyed your workout with Joe Wicks this morning? I know I did! The squat jumps really worked out my thighs and the crunches worked out my abs. It was tricky to keep that up for 30 seconds! Did you manage it? My favourite move had to be the karate kick because I loved pretending to be a ninja. What was your favourite move?
As the sun is out today, I am going to try and go for a bike ride round the countryside. Will let you know how I get on tomorrow. Have you been able to go out for a ride on your bike or are you playing football in your back garden? Whatever you do, I hope you make the most of this sunshine and stay safe!

At home with Miss Bullock

Dear Year 1, I hope you are all well and that you have been enjoying some of the home learning Mrs Ingram, Miss Phillips and I set you. I have been keeping busy at home with lots of different things. I started my day by getting out in the sunshine in my garden. My patio was looking a little grubby so I gave it a clean. When I moved some of the plant pots I found 2 worms and 2 centipedes! What minibeasts can you find in your garden? Now I can sit on my chairs and enjoy the sunshine. My plant pots are looking a little tired and in need of some weeding so that will be a job for later on in the week.
Because I can't come to school I have set up my own office area so I can work from home. This is where I will be writing my blogs from and finding some more home learning ideas for you.
To keep active, today I enjoyed some yoga. I have heard that the Joe Wicks workout is awesome so I am going to try that out tomorrow morning! Fancy joining me for it? It's live on youtube at 9am. Later on this evening I am going to sit down with a book to enjoy some reading. What books are you going to share this evening?
Hope you have all had a good day and enjoying the sunshine from your back gardens!
