This Week
This week we have been learning about Incy Wincy Spider.  We have found out all about Spiders from our 'Spider Fact' Show & Tell.  We have also been exploring Capacity in our water tray, pouring and filling different sized containers and using the mathematical vocabulary 'full/empty/half full/half empty' to describe and compare different amounts of liquid.  

In Maths, we have been finding different ways of making 8
In Literacy we have been sequencing the poem and adding cations/labels 

Next Week 
Next week we will be learning all about Chinese New Year, finding out how and why it is celebrated.  We will also be learning about the Year of the Pig, practising Chinese Style writing and Chinese greetings too.

This Week
This week we have been learning about Ordinal Numbers and positional langauge through the poem There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly as part of our Nursery Rhymes topic.  We have sorted and ordered the animals from the peom in sequence and used ordinal numbers to label them in the correct positions eg 1st, 2nd, 3rd...

In Maths, we have been using ordinal numbers and positional language 
In Literacy we have been sequencing the poem.

Next Week 
Next week we will be continuing our Nursery Rhymes topic and looking at the rhyme Incy Wincy Spider.  We will practise learning the rhyme and reciting it.  We will also be using our 10 frames to find different ways of making 8.  We will also be practising number formation, recording numbers and beginning to talk about and use the language of 'Capacity.'
As part of our topic work we will be making spider webs, by weaving onto paper plates and also creating handprint spiders!

Literacy Focus - We will be sequencing the rhyme and adding labels and captions

Maths - Ordinal Numbers

In Maths this week we have been learning all about 'Ordinal Numbers.' We have been sequencing the characters from the poem, 'There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly', and putting them in order.  We have used positional language to describe which was first, second etc, and practised recording them in lists using ordinal numbers to indicate the position in which they were eaten!

This Week
This week we have been learning about Money and the poem 5 Currant Buns, as part of our Nursery Rhymes topics.  We have sorted, counted and ordered coins. We have also made our own cPenguin News16/1/2019

Maths - Money

We have been learning all about money.  We have sorted the coins in order of value, we have also been using the coins to make totals to 10p and 20p. 
We have learnt that 2p is the same as two pennies and that 100 pennies is the same as £1.
Wow! What super maths learning Penguin class, well done!

This Week
This week we have been learning about Time and the poem Hickory Dickory Dock as part of our Nursery Rhymes topics.  We have made our own paper plate clock with movable hands and we have been busy practising telling the time.  We have also talked about days of the week, months of the year and 'New Year.'

In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time using o'clock and half past 

In Literacy we have been writing thank you letters for our Christmas Presents.

Next Week 
Next week we will be continuing our Nursery Rhymes topic and looking at the rhyme 5 Currant Buns.  We will practise learning the rhyme and reciting it.  We will also be thinking about subtraction, one less than, taking away and counting back.
As part of our topic work we will also be finding out about money and different coins and counting amounts using 1p's 2p's and 5p's. 
We will also be playing rhyming games, matching pairs of rhyming words and listening cards to the letter sounds. 

Maths Focus - We will be counting coins in 'piggy banks' to find the totals.  
Literacy Focus - We will be finding rhyming pairs and continuing a rhyming string.

We have been learning all about time this week. We have been talking about clocks and looking at the numbers and the hands on a clock. As part of this for Show & Tell the children brought in lots of things with numbers on such as tape measures, games, clocks, remote controllers, bricks and books. 
We had lots of fun looking at the items and counting all the different numbers.
