Easter Bonnet Parade - Wednesday 3rd April

Don't forget to bring your Easter Bonnets to school next Wednesday 3rd April for our Easter Bonnet Parade as part of our Reception Classes Easter Singing Assembly!
Many thanks for supporting your child at home with this activity. We look forward to seeing you at our Easter Singing Assembly next Wednesday at 2.30pm.

This Week
This week we have been talking about Mother's Day. We shared pictures of our Mummy's for Show & Tell and told our friends why we love our Mummy's. 
We have also begun our Easter topic and been talking about Spring time.


In Maths, we have been adding two 2-digit numbers
In Literacy we have been completing phonic assessments

Next Week 
Next week we will be continuing our Easter topic, finding how and why it tis celebrated. We will be making some Easter crafts and cards and we'll also be going on an Easter Egg Hunt - Yum!
We are also looking forward to our Easter Singing Assembly (details below).

Easter Singing Assembly & Easter Bonnet Parade
Don't forget to come along to our Easter singing assembly on Wednesday 3rd April at 2.30pm.  The children have been busy learning lots of fantastic Easter songs which they are very excited to perform to you.
There will also be an EASTER BONNET PARADE! Please help your child to make an Easter bonnet at home which they can bring into school and wear for the parade.
Please could all bonnets be brought into school on Wednesday 3rd April, ready for our Easter Parade.

This Week
This week we have been learning all about the Rain.  We have been talking about how and why it rains and we have learnt a new word - Precipitation. 
We have also been looking at 3D shapes and describing them using the mathematical terms 'vertices, edges, faces.'

In Maths, we have been learning the names  and properties of 3D shapes
In Literacy we have been matching pairs of opposites

Next Week 
Next week we will be starting our Easter topic, finding out about how and why it is celebrated.  In circle time we will also be talking about 'Mother's Day' all the lovely things our Mummy's do and also why our Mummy's are very special to us.

This Week
This week we have been learning all about the Sun.  We have been talking about Sun Safety and learnt some new words 'HYDRATED' and 'DEHYDRATED' and we talked about what they mean. 
We also made 'sun catchers' using paper plates and tissue paper and looked at the light through the tissue paper by holding our sun catchers by the windows. 

In Maths, we have been learning the names  and properties of 2D shapes
In Literacy we have been writing about sun safety

Next Week 
Next week we will be continuing our Weather topic and learning all about the Rain.  We will be talking about how and why it rains and we will be learning some water associated words such as 'Precipitation.'
We will also be making 'rain makers' and exploring  and describing the sounds they make.

Show & Tell - A Recipe

As part of our topic on Pancake Day, we brought in our favourite recipes to share with the class. 
We had lots of super recipes including pancakes, cakes, biscuits, Gruffalo bakes, magic potions and even slime!
We talked about our recipes using related vocabulary including 'ingredients', 'method', 'cooking.'

This Week
This week we have been learning all about Pancake Day. We have been finding out how and why it is celebrated and we made (and ate!) pancakes on Shrove Tuesday! Yum!!
We have also talked about recipes, and used the words, 'ingredients', 'method.'


In Maths, we have been using non standard measures to weigh bags of flour and we have talked about 'heavy' 'light' and 'balance'
In Literacy we have been writing shopping lists for Mr Wolf's Pancakes 

Next Week 
Next week we will be continuing our Weather topic and learning all about the Sun.  We will be talking about Sun Safety and how to protect yourself on hot and sunny days. We will also be looking at 'shadows' and (hopefully - weather permitted!) drawing around our shadows. We will also be looking at 'light' and making sun catchers and 'stain class window' pictures using tissue paper.

This Week
This week we started our new Weather topic and we have been learning all about the 'wind.'  We have learnt a new word - Anemometer - and talked about how wind power is measured and the different strengths including hurricanes and tornadoes. We have also made our own pinwheel windmills by decoratiing and folding paper and attaching it to a straw.  We have also explored sail boats in our water tray and feathers in our interest tray. 
We have also listened to the story, 'Mrs Mopple's Washing Line' and used the story as a basis for our sentence work in our literacy books, describing what happened to the washing on a very windy day!


In Maths, we have been counting on in 2's, practising our 2x table and fast recall
In Literacy we have been writing sentences about Mrs Mopple's Washing Line 

Next Week 
Next week we will be learning all about Pancake Day. We will be finding out how and why it is celebrated and we will be making (and eating!) pancakes on Shrove Tuesday! Yum!!
Please could you let us know if your child has any food allergies or sensitivities prior to this activity. Thank you.

We will also be listening to the story, Mr Wolf's Pancakes, and writing shopping lists for Mr Wolf and in maths we will be weighing and measuring ingredients for our pancake recipe.

Don't Forget...
On Thursday 7th March we will be celebrating World Book Day at Rushmere Hall Primary School.
The children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book characters and we will be looking at lots of different books, sharing our favourite stories and doing all sorts of fun book activities too!
