What a lot of learning we have completed this half term! We feel very pleased with how well all children have settled in to year 3. Well done! You certainly deserve a break.
If you get bored over the holidays you could: Get out in the garden and go on a nature hunt. Learn your spellings. Play a board game or card game. Complete some Roman homework. Ask a grown up to take you to the Library. Practise column addition or subtraction. Play times table rock stars. We look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 29th October for lots more super learning. Year 3 teachers Its already been a week since our busy day at Colchester Castle... We learnt and saw so much about the Romans and Celts including what they wore, where they lived, and how they built their houses. the children thought it was very amusing that they used animal poo to strengthen the walls of the round houses! We had to work hard as a team to recreate and build a Roman villa and a round house, it was quite tricky to get all the pieces in the correct place. It felt great once we had finished and we had great fun going back in time pretending we were living in them. We were able to dress up as Roman soldiers, look at weapons they used and carry a shield around. We decided it would be a tricky job being a Roman and having to carry a heavy shield as well as a big sword. What a great day we had! Our trip has inspired our writing this week and we have written some wonderful recounts of our day. This week our learning about the Romans was brought to life once again as Mr Kightley shared his collection of artefacts.
The children were able to hold Roman coins, pottery, jewellery and many more interesting items. What a great experience! Mr Kightley was able to share a wealth of knowledge with the children and helped to bring this topic to life. Which was your favourite artefact? How are Roman coins similar to our coins? What metal were many of the items made from? Here are a few photos from our time with Mr Kightley. Tell a grown up about the artefacts you can see. Year 3 Teachers What an exciting and exhausting day we had at Colchester Castle today!
We saw lots of artefacts and learned so many interesting facts about the Romans. The staff at the museum were so helpful and answered many of our questions. Keep your eyes peeled next week for photos and recounts of our trip. Year 3 Teachers |
