This week we have been Busy making lots of crafts to sell to our grown ups at the Christmas Fayre Friday 9th December. So make sure you bring plenty of money to jazz up your Christmas tree.
We will release the children as normal and then re-open the doors open for you to come back into the classroom area where we will have set up our stall to sell our goodies. Please then feel free to wonder down to the halls where there are more stalls, games and fun. Please remember to complete and return your trip letter and money so you can come on the trip - if you need a new letter please let me know thanks.Next week we will be learning all about the Gingerbread Man before we start our Christmas celebrations. We will be learning the story with actions and talking about the characters and events.
In phonics we will be learning the new digraphs qu, sh and ch. Maybe at home you could thing of some words with these sounds in? In maths we will be concentrating on number recognition to 20 and putting them in order, and saying a number one more or less. Just a reminder that we aim to listen to readers and change books on Mondays and Fridays. If we feel that the children need a little more support or practise, with a particular book, it may not be changed.
We encourage you to read their school book several times so the children have a deeper understanding of the story events, become familiar with the characters and begin to learn some words by sight. You can support your child's reading at home by sharing a variety of picture books, magazines, newspapers, non fiction texts, street names and numbers, or take a trip to your local library and scan out some new books. Parents are welcome to come in and view our lovely displays and find out what we have been learning about.
This week we are looking at the single sound l and the digraph ll & ss, we have learnt that these digraphs are found at the end of the words. We have also been working hard at breaking down words for writing and are becoming confident hearing the initial sounds blending and segmenting.
In maths we are looking at time and talking about things that happen at different times of the day, and later on in the week we will be introduced to clock and looking at o'clock times. This week we have been talking about bonfire night, firework crafts, how to stay safe and words to describe fireworks (pop, bang, boom). This week we have been doing all things spooky! We have made our own spooky soup with lots of gruesome ingredients, we linked this to our writing and used our phonics to make lists for our own spooky soup. we will also be learning the new sounds b, f & ff
In maths we have been working on accurate counting and thinking of strategies that help us to count a group of objects. Later on this week we will be looking at Diwali and how it is celebrated, we will make our own diva lamps, rangoli patterns and cards. This Friday afternoon reception will be having a spooky disco, this will take place in school time. Please send your children to school in their school uniform with a bag of party clothes to change into after lunch.
