Brush your teeth!

30/11/2018

During Mrs Coggins' final visit she taught us how to brush our teeth properly. We got to see plaque on our teeth and learned how to brush it away. What a lot of learning! Can you teach someone at home how to brush their teeth?
Lots of us also realised that our toothbrushes were too big! The head of the toothbrush should not be bigger that our thumbnail. This photo shows a perfect fit.

Healthy teeth

What a fantastic afternoon we had learning about teeth with Mrs Coggins!
This week Mrs Coggins taught us about how sugar damages our teeth. She taught us that acid attacks contribute to tooth decay, which in turn leads to holes in our teeth.

Children aged 7-10 years old are only meant to have 6 cubes (teaspoons) of sugar a day.
We were shocked at how much sugar was in the following food and drinks.
Flavoured water - almost 7 teaspoons
Apple juice - over 9 teaspoons
Milk shake - 15 teaspoons
Squashies (sweets) - 29 teaspoons!!!!

What a lot of sugar!!

Mrs Coggins reminded us that it is not about going without but choosing our foods sensibly. Eat any sweet treats at a meal time instead of throughout the day.

What are you going to try and change? 3C have suggested trying to bring only water in our classroom bottles.

3C updates

6/11/2018

I hope you are all settling in to the new half term and not feeling too chilly?

On Friday (9th) it is our class assembly. Please do join us if you are able to from 9-9:30am. We will be sharing some of our learning and singing you some songs.

A reminder that our Year 3 trip to Colchester castle is next Thursday and we are all so excited. Children should bring their lunch in a named bag or lunch box and must wear school uniform. There is no need to bring school bags in on that day.

This week Mrs Coggins has been in to teach us about teeth. Can you remember why we need teeth?
What are the ways we can look after our teeth?
Can you remember any of the names for our teeth?

She set you a challenge to find 10 foods at home which you were surprised to find sugar in. Write them down for next Tuesday.

Keep warm!
Mrs Chrin
