In Art, 4S have been studying the work of Henri Matisse and so far produced some interesting work in response. This week the children produced 'scissor paintings' which incorporated many of the abstract images they have been learning about, whilst using contrasting colours, both of which featured in Matisse's later works.
4S have started to learn all about sound in Science and so in this week's lesson, the children investigated different vibrations, as sound is a type of energy made by vibrations causing movements in air particles. The experiments included strumming and plucking ukuleles, 'dancing rice' on drums and seeing the effects of different sizes of tuning forks in water (a rather wet experience for some!). They identified how pitch and volume could be altered by the size of the vibrations and how vibrations accurately created sound by moving through the air as sound waves. Although it was a rather excitable (and loud) afternoon, lots of learning and fun took place, which was great!
'Thank you to everyone who managed to attend the 'Meet The Teacher' session last Friday. It was lovely to meet with those of you that were able to make it; I hope you found the session useful and informative. For those of you that were unable to attend, I have attached a copy of the power point presentation that I used, so that you will know what was discussed. You should also have now received all of the correspondence that was distributed. Please could you make sure that you return the 2 letters regarding Photographic Permissions and Internet Agreement Forms, signed, as soon as possible - I'd be most grateful. As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or concerns. ![]()
Welcome back... I hope you all had an restful and enjoyable summer holiday. The children have had an action packed day finding out all about life in Year 4. They have worked hard by producing excellent examples of handwriting and presentation skills and explored the qualities of good talk partners. Expectations for Year 4 have been shared along with the timetable for the Autumn Term, which has been attached below for your information. ![]()
A reminder that the children need to have a named P.E. kit in school every day please. They are also encouraged to bring a named water bottle in to school that they can keep in the classroom.
I intend to compose a blog each week to keep you updated with what is going on in 4S, but I also look forward to meeting you at the Meet the Teacher session. As always, if you have any queries or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. |
