We have had great fun in Year 5 this week! We have been enjoying our topic on Earth & Space and learnt lots of new knowledge from Mike on Wednesday during the planetarium visit. We got to see the stars move in the night sky in an interactive dome and the children enjoyed playing with games from the Space age era/handling real meteorites!
We have been using our space knowledge to investigate in art using different materials and marks to create our own solar system. Attached are some images of the work we have created so far!
European languages day was also super fun! We welcomed our special guest ...... Mr. Costa!!! Mr. Costa is our helpful ICT technician, who is Portuguese, and he taught us all a Portuguese song! He also answered many questions the children had about Portugal and life in Portugal. We then learnt all about the Portuguese flag and what the colours and symbols meant. A lot of learning and fun for all!
Watch us in action learning Portuguese in the video! :D
The Year 5 Team
What a great start to Year 5!
We have been super busy the last couple of days, settling in to life in the Year 5/6 block. We have started learning about our class characters and why they are inspirational people. We have also been learning about place value in maths and we have started our first topic on Coasts, looking at the Water Cycle.
It has been brilliant to see everybody working hard and trying their best - I have been particularly impressed with the excellent presentation in books, shown by the children & their enthusiasm towards their Art work on creating a Coastal scene using watercolours. Pictures to come soon - watch this space!
Please remember to bring your P.E kits in if you haven't done so already. On Tuesday, we have a squash roadshow and lessons with the P.E coaches also start next week.
Spellings will start next week and the children will be bringing home a termly list of spellings which we will be testing each week.
Please remember to come and see us next Tuesday afternoon at the meet the teacher sessions, where we will update you on the year ahead. If you can't attend, you will find the presentations on the Year 5/6 section of the website, along with our class timetables and the homework for this term.
