Firstly, my apologies for not writing a blog last week, but I was leading the Aylmerton residential trip. Needless to say I am feeling rather tired with today being my twelfth day of work without a break!
This week we began to study a new book in Literacy called Cendrillon, which is a Caribbean version of Cinderella, but don't be fooled into thinking that this will be like the version we are mostly familiar with! So far we have only written predictions, studied vocabulary from the story and read it through once. Even though this is quite a departure from Jesse Owens (our previously studied book in Literacy) I am confident that this will be as equally engaging and produce some high quality work. For your information, your child brought home a Home Spelling Book yesterday (Thursday) with their first set of spellings to learn. Ordinarily spelling tests will take place on a Friday, but as next Friday is a PD Day, next week this will be on Thursday. You will also see inside the cover of their Home Spelling Book, the Year 3 and 4 word list. These are the words that the children are expected to be able to spell by the end of this academic year and are the words that we will be using each week in our spelling tests. Obviously, if your child wants to get a head-start on learning them, they are more than welcome! We will try and highlight this sheet with the spellings that your child gets correct in their tests so that you can see the progress they are making and also support your child to learn any that they are struggling with. Thank you to the vast majority of you that have returned your ICT and Photo permission forms, but as I still have some outstanding, I am reluctant to post too many photos or video clips on the blog, therefore if you know you are yet to return either (or both) of these forms, please do so ASAP! I have sent home copies, but if you need another, please just ask! Have a good weekend - I know I intend to have (hopefully) a relaxing one!
