A warm welcome to all of the parents and children!
We have had a great start to Year 5 and the children have all settled in and adapted well to their new classroom. I am super excited to have joined the Rushmere teaching team and I am looking forward to working with you all and teaching the children throughout their time in Year 5. We have started life in Year 5 by discussing the PRIDE rules and the children have all signed the PRIDE contract to agree to stick to these rules all year! We also discussed how to be an excellent talking partner and 5C have created their own checklist of the qualities a good talking partner should display. We put these skills to the test by sharing with our partners what we got up to over the summer holidays and the children have been given a new talking partner ready to work with for the new week ahead. On Friday, we discussed the importance of having a growth mindset and how it is important to try our best, even if we do find things tricky. The children were given the challenge of making an origami penguin without any help and lots of them said 'I CAN'T DO THIS!' - highlighting the importance of using our growth mindsets, even if we are faced with a challenging task! They then had a go at making the penguin using instructions to help. Dylan broke the record for making the smallest origami penguin! The penguins will be used as a reminder to the children all year that they can achieve anything they put their mind to! If you can, please come along to the Meet the Teacher session on Monday 10th September at 2.50pm, where I look forward to meeting you to give you more information about the year ahead. Miss Clarke
