This week we read the story Mr Wolf's Pancakes, about a wolf who wanted to make pancakes, but needed help from his neighbours. We then decided to write a shopping list for the ingredients we would need to make pancakes. We discussed our favourite toppings. We then took part in lots of pancake themed activities. We made pancakes with play-dough, used scales to measure ingredients, used the role play resources to act out making the batter and designed our own pancakes with fruity toppings. But the best part was, decorating pancakes on Friday to have as part of our snack! Yum!
![]() This week we read our last Julia Donaldson book Tiddler. We had a very fishy themed week, with lots of underwater themed activities. We made fish, that you can see hanging in the Nursery. We also discussed the social message behind the story; which is, if you keep telling stories that are not true, when you do tell the truth others may not believe you. ![]() We also continue to use the hairdressers, which we set up last week. So many of the children are using this role play area we have had to limit it to five at a time! If you know any hairdressers who are willing to donate things like hairbrushes, hair magazines etc. they no longer need, it would be gratefully received. Next week is half term holiday, so no school or Nursery. Nursery will reopen on Tuesday 25th February.
We start the half term off with Pancake week. Then we will be focusing on nursery rhymes This week in Nursery we have been looking at another Julia Donaldson book, 'A squash and a squeeze'. This has given us the opportunity to look at counting and estimating, for example, estimating how many toy animals would fit into a stable. It has also given us the opportunity to discuss the animals which you would find on a farm.
In the secret garden we acted out the story using masks and then in groups the children made one of the animals using twigs, leaves and grass. Next week we look at our last Julia Donaldson book, 'Tiddler', watch this space to find out what exciting activities we will be doing linked to this story! |
