For the final week of our topic Colourful Creatures, we have read the book 'WOW said the owl'. In numeracy we have continued to subitise and in Literacy, the children sequenced their daily routine and wrote captions. We have also looked at the life-cycle of owls, carried out science experiments about colour, experimented with colour mixing, colour sorting and produced pictures using wax reliefs and colour washing. Penguin class also explored shades of colour by using white paint added to a base colour to make lighter shades and black paint to make darker shades. They then used these colours to decorate owls.
In addition to lots of learning, the Christmas Art and Craft Exhibition production line has been in full flow! The children have been busy making lots of lovely gifts that will be on sale next Friday, including a personalised tree decoration, a calendar and a pop-up Christmas card - all of which you can buy in a pack for the bargain price of £2.50. There will also be other items on sale including Christmas cookies, hot chocolate stirrers, wrapping paper, tree decorations, reindeer food plus more! All of the funds raised will be spent within Reception, so it's all for a good cause, so we hope you will find something to tempt you to buy!
In the Secret Garden, the children made Autumn Crowns by collecting lots of different natural materials and attaching them using double-sided sticky tape. Don't they look amazing?
In assembly, as well as in class, the children have been learning Christmas songs for sharing with you at the Reception Sing Song. Thank you to those parents that have already returned their requests for seats at this performance. For those that have not yet done so, please could these be returned at your earliest convenience, to enable us to allocate extra seats to those that have requested them.
Congratulations to all of the children that received 'well-dones' this week or who celebrated birthdays.
Next Friday afternoon, the children are visiting the Wolsey Studios to watch Arthur's Dreamboat. Because it will be such a busy day, we are asking that the children do not bring in their book bags that day (Friday 6th December). The children should arrive back at school by the end of the day and so normal end-of-day procedures will apply.
For show and tell next week, the children need to bring in something with buttons.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
