Learning to Play a Musical Instrument at Rushmere Hall

Year 5 classes have Whole Class Ensemble Teaching (WCETs) in either clarinet or brass instruments for a year!  These are taught by tutors from Suffolk County Music Services.

Additionally, over 70 children at Rushmere Hall choose to have instrumental lessons in small groups every week.
We have specialist instrumental tutors who visit each week, and teach -
Violin, drumkit, guitar, woodwind, brass and piano.
Children have the opportunity to perform in the school concerts at Christmas and Easter.  It’s a great chance to see how much they have progressed during their lessons and celebrate their success!

INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS
Instrumental lessons are available at Rushmere Hall for KS2 children, subject to availability of instruments and instrumental tutor time.  Weekly group lessons are 20 minutes long, and take place during the school day – either in lesson or play times.
Our instrumental tutors this year

Mrs Ingram is our violin teacher.  She teaches violins on Mondays.
Mr Lockington teaches guitar on Wednesdays.  He is a guitar tutor for Suffolk County Music Services (SCMS).
Mr Courtney teaches brass on Wednesdays. (SCMS)
Mr Whiteman teaches woodwind on Thursdays.  (SCMS)
Mr Waters, our drum tutor, teaches on Fridays.  (SCMS).
Mrs Nicol teaches piano on Fridays.

Guitar
is currently our most popular instrument!

For the year 2024-2025, lessons cost £60 per term in advance, and parents and children need to commit to a whole year.  Instruments are loaned by the school or the children can use their own instruments.  Please leave a message at the school office if you would like your child to have instrumental tuition, or be put on the waiting list.

Children have a copy of the instrumental timetable displayed in their classes, and soon get into the routine of going to their lessons.  They need to remember to bring their instrument in on lesson days, and practise at home in-between lessons, to make good progress.
