We asked Parents who are already bringing their children to Rushmere Primary School what attracted them to Rushmere.
1. "A school that is evolving!"
Many of our parents have felt the changes brought about over the last couple of years. We are a school that is constantly evolving! Constantly looking to improve the provision that we offer. Whilst our recent OFSTED report is super positive and we are proud of our achievements, we are not complacent and believe that everything can be made better. We are striving to achieve an outstanding grading.
2. "Positive vibe in the local community"
Parents now consider our school as an option after receiving positive feedback from other parents.
You can read our OFSTED report and look at our results but feedback from other parents is often very useful indeed. We recieve lots of visits from Parents who may never have considered this school, perhaps because we are quite hidden (location wise) but also because things were 'rocky' in the past. Parents have been impressed and surprised when they visit. They appreciate the school's honesty about where it has been and where it is heading and are impressed with the quality of the learning taking place.
3. "Happy children"
Children at Rushmere are happy! Yes - results are important and yes quality teaching is important, however, children at Rushmere are happy! They are happy because they enjoy their learning, they love their teachers and they love the different things that happen at Rushmere.
4. "Location, facilities, physical space & clubs"
We are a big school! And... whilst some parents nervous about the size of building, children easily find their way round the school and know exactly where they are going! For EYFS and KS1 the space is self contained and so does feel as overwhelming as Parents would believe. The size of our school is an asset. We have space! Space to offer a better provision. In Reception and Infant classes, children have their own dedicated cloakroom and toilet areas, their own undercover outdoor space, their own additional teaching spaces and access to large shared space for independent play.
The rest of the school offers plenty of space too! Two large halls both with full staging and lighting for performances. We have a large field (not usual for Ipswich schools) with capacity for 3 full size football matches.
When considering the size of the school, it is useful to remember that being a large school means it has more capacity to offer a more varied provision. We run a range of clubs every day at school. The other thing to consider is that when children move onto secondary school they will potentially be in a school with over 1500 children attending. Children in smaller schools can struggle with the transition to secondary school - a shock to the system. By the time our children reach Year 6, they have no issues is transitioning to secondary school... they are comfortable being in a big school.
5. "Lovely friendly atmosphere"
Not being biased - we are a lovely school. This is a lovely place to work and because of that our children and parents are happy.
History & Facilities
Rushmere Hall Primary school was built in 1949 on the site of an old cottage, and many aspects of the original garden and boundary hedges have been retained at the front of the school.
The school is a single story construction, spread over a large area. This enables children to learn in very pleasant, spacious surroundings. There are playing fields at the front and rear of the school, providing games and athletic pitches.
In July 2013, our school successfully obtained a Grade Two listing status (with the help of English Heritage), in recognition of the architectural significance of the school’s design and the Festival of Britain Award of 1951.
The interior of the school is extremely well maintained, with its wide corridors and multiple teaching spaces. The school is well resourced, including the most up-to-date ICT equipment.
Our excellent facilities include the following:-
